History
May 2011 was a long time ago in the history of Minecraft. This was a time when there was no End. No multiplayer Nether. Zombies still dropped feathers. There were no maps, pistons, shears, or trapdoors. Most importantly, there was no Creative mode.
The Beta 1.5 update added a few new things the previous month, including this cool new item called Powered Rails. For the first time, you could get from point A to point B automatically (at a reasonable speed!) Concidentally, Mike (a close friend of mine) had just teamed up with me to launch a new server. So, we decided it would be cool to implement powered rails as a core part of this new world. A “subway system”, we thought. Neat!
Digging the tunnels was… tough at first. We were vanilla after all, and remember: no Creative mode. We slogged through for a while, but eventually we realized that it would be impossible to build the system this way. It was for this reason that the server switched to Bukkit, to allow for plugins such as WorldEdit (which had a helpful “super pickaxe” tool).
When Beta 1.8 came out, the addition of Creative mode made things a whole lot easier. The server would still stay on Bukkit for some time, since it relied on a lot of anti-grief and QOL plugins. It wasn’t until some time much later, around release version 1.12, that these plugins were replaced with command blocks and data packs. Since then the server has been back to totally vanilla.
Since it started, 49 players have left their mark by adding their own stations to the subway system, across a variety of different tracks.
Joining
Currently, the server is not online. This will probably not be forever, so feel free to check back.
