The Vultroverse (ボルトロ・ウォールド Borutoro Woorudo) is an alternate universe in which many of the articles of this wiki exist. It began as an extension of the Archie Comics version of Sonic the Hedgehog, though over time it has morphed into a unique universe that crosses over with many fandoms and other universes created by Glimmer.
History
The Vultroverse shares a majority of its canon and history with that of the Sonic's world of Archie Comics. In this way, most events can be considered pseudo-canon or roughly adjacent to the main continuity of those comics.
Originally a variant of the Archie comics universe, it is believed that long ago it suffered a collision with a variant universe of Marvel Comics. This created a semi-stable hybrid universe with elements of both universes, similar to Image Comics Zone. Consequently, this universe formed a "bridge" of sorts between the Marvel and Sonic multiverses.
Eventually this unnatural link begins to pull other neighboring universes towards its own, causing a near total collision with another crossover universe Earth-7642. Due to the already fragile nature of the Vultroverse, it is unlikely it would have survived the event, causing whats known in the Marvel multiverse as an incursion.
Age of Heroes
For most of its early history, Earth was very much like the real world, save for the existence of an assortment of super-powered individuals. Arguably, the first widely known superhero was Captain Peggy Carter, though many existed throughout history before her.
In the early 22nd century, documented superpowers in humans began to dwindle. It is believed to have some correlation with the hyper-evolution of animal species on Earth, which also accelerated during this time. Some believe these changes are the result of superpower genetics developing in animals, most commonly the mutant gene.
Modern Era
By the modern age of the Vultroverse, the tales of superpowered humans had faded into myth and legend, with some believing that they may have never happened at all.
The Super Genesis Wave, a major event in the Archie comics, also occurs in the Vultroverse. As such, Earth as it was previously known was rewritten to make Dr. Eggman into a supreme being. This event was ultimately undone by Sonic the Hedgehog. As an unintential consequence, this event severed the connection with the Marvel multiverse, aligning the Vultroverse more closely to the universe of the Sonic video games.
The Vultroverse has only explored its pre-Super Genesis Wave continuity in the three-story arc Planet Etheria, Vultro and the Spider-Women, and Vultro Meets Shizuka Joestar. Outside of these stories, all documented events take place in the post-Super Genesis wave continuity.
Although most if not all Vultroverse inhabitants are unable to remember this event, other universes had the technology to observe it. Another world's Dr. Otto Octavius, for instance, documented the erasure of the Infinity Stones. He sends Despara on a mission to gather information about the cause of such a cosmic event, unaware that the Vultroverse also had its own version of her.
Dr. Eggman overhears a transmission sent from Octavius to Despara, learning that Octavius theorized that going back before the Super Genesis Wave would allow the recovery of the stones. He decides to test this theory, attempting to steal the stones from the 21st century of the Vultroverse. All the while, neither of them were unaware that the interaction between their two universes was also accelerating an imminent incursion.
Science & Technology
By the time of Vultro's birth, medical science had vastly advanced compared to our real-world technology. By 25 BBV, the estimated average life expectancy crossed the 100 year threshold, though this did vary between species.
As a result, the average age of parents also began to climb. It was not uncommon for first-time parents to be anywhere from 30 to 40 years old. This can be seen quite clearly with the Zeridia Family, who consistently had children in this age range for generations.
Relationship to Other Media
Video Games
A majority of the Sonic series video games, up to Sonic Generations, are canon to the Vultroverse. Exceptions include Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), Sonic Unleashed, and Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood. A common reference point is that the events of Sonic the Hedgehog take place when Vultro the Fox is eight years old (8 ABV).
Time in the Vultroverse advances at the same rate as reality, with the Vultro Calendar being dependent on the age of Vultro the Fox. The current year is 29 ABV (Vultro Calendar), 3248 (Mobian Calendar), or 14028 CE (Gregorian Calendar.)
Trivia
- Many other fan characters that have crossed paths with Vultro have their own version in the Vultroverse. How different they are from their canon versions depends on the character and the context they appear.
- The Vultroverse is unofficially known in the Marvel multiverse as Earth-7261996.
- It was first conceived in May 2013, at the very tail end of the "original" Archie Comics continuity. It has since been retconned that the Vultroverse is canon to the newer, post-Super Genesis Wave continuity.
- The Vultroverse continues to inheret the canon of the Archie Comics universe, despite its publication ending in 2017.
- An IDW version of Vultro exists in the modern IDW Publishing continuity, though it is not currently known what differences he has to the Vultroverse version.
- Characters from the Archie and Marvel universes have met before, though it did not involve any Sonic characters.
